---------- Welcome to Pegasus Mail for Windows v2.23! ---------------------
Unzipping WINPM223.ZIP produces three files: WINPMAIL.ZIP, a copy of this
message, and WGUIDE.EXE (the online guide). To install Pegasus Mail v2.23,
follow these steps (the examples assume that you are installing to C:\PMAIL).
1: Run WGUIDE.EXE and read its contents thoroughly (VERY IMPORTANT!!)
2: Create the directory where you would like to install WinPMail
- example: MKDIR C:\PMAIL
3: Copy WINPMAIL.ZIP into that directory
- example: COPY WINPMAIL.ZIP C:\PMAIL
4: CD to that directory
- example: C:<Enter> CD \PMAIL
5: Issue the command PKUNZIP -d WINPMAIL
This procedure will create a directory structure with everything in the right
place. Next, run Windows and create a program icon in the Program Manager
which executes WINPMAIL.EXE, then double-click that icon.
- example: C:\PMAIL\WINPMAIL
------- Updating from earlier versions of WinPMail to WinPMail v2.23 -------
You can update to WinPMail v2.23 in one of two ways:
1: Install WINPMAIL.ZIP as described in INSTALL.TXT, but place it in a
different directory from the version you are currently running. In
NetWare mode, this is all that is required; for standalone users, you
need to copy the files PMAIL.CFG and PMGATE.SYS from your current
WinPMail directory into the new version's directory so that it can
access your mailboxes and gateways. Note that PMGATE.SYS may not
exist on all standalone systems.
This update mechanism is recommended.
2: Unpack WINPMAIL.ZIP into its own directory then replace the copies
of WINPMAIL.EXE, WINPMAIL.DAT and WINPMAIL.HLP that you are currently
using with the versions contained in the new file. If you are running
under Novell NetWare, you should also replace the old version of
WPNNW3.DLL with the version in this file.
This update mechanism will use less disk space than option 1 but some
new features may not be updated.
